Breeding Quality Norwegian Elkhounds Since 1991
Our Puppies: All Castlebar Elkhound puppies are sold with a one-year health guarantee against inherited defects, including hip dysplasia, blindness, epilepsy, and renal failure. Our puppies are smart, healthy, well-adjusted, make ideal pets, and do well in conformation trials. Some are Canine Good Citizens, some are used for search and rescue work–but most are loyal, active, family pets.
Our Breeding Goals: This is a small breeding kennel and our litters are carefully planned in advance. Our breeding dogs are carefully selected for stable temperaments, intelligence, hardiness, good health, and conformance to breed standards. We never inbreed or line breed. While the majority of our puppies are sold as pets, what you do with your dog in competition is up to you. None of our puppies are ever sold to pet stores or puppy brokers. Sales are made to qualified individuals only.
DNA-Certified Pedigrees: All of our breeding dogs, both male and female, are in the process of being DNA certified, in accordance with new American Kennel Club regulations. Once the certification and registration process is complete, even if you already have one of our dogs, you will be able to confirm your dog’s pedigree through the AKC. We have always been meticulous about the lineage of our dogs, and thanks to the new AKC regulations, we can prove it without a doubt.

Breeding smooth, broken, and rough coat Jack Russell Terriers.
We also breed “Parsons” and “Shorties”. When they mature they will be between 9 and 12 inches high at the withers.
Our puppies are well-socialized. They have been held since birth and numerous times throughout the day. And yes, they are being exposed to young children and cats.
Our dogs are raised with lots of TLC for quality, they have excellent temperaments and are a joy to live with. They are energetic but with the proper exercise and ample playtime it reduces their” high energy”.
All of our puppies will have their tails docked, dew claws removed, wormed, and vet checked with their first vaccinations before going to their new homes.
A $150.00 deposit will hold your puppy of choice and will go towards the purchase price.
Adoptable Pets: From time to time we have young adult dogs available for adoption. We charge a very modest adoption fee of $100. These dogs become available for various reasons, mainly because they yearn for something more than a kennel home. They want a home of their own. Please consider giving one of these wonderful dogs a “forever home”. Please note that we advocate companion homes for these dogs, they are not offered for breeding.
